Why I have been sporting a Mustache this November….

With Thanksgiving less than a week away now is a great time of the year to think about what we are thankful for. Three things I am most thankful for are the good health of my Family and Friends as well as my own personal health.

According to the US National Cancer Institute’s Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Database 1 in 2 Men and 1 in 3 Women are at risk of developing any type of cancer. Additionally, 1 in 4 Men and 1 in 5 Women are at risk of dying from any type of cancer. Translation - Of my current 3,241 Facebook friends; 697 of my male friends and 616 of my female friends are at risk of developing any type of cancer,  349 of my male friends and 369 of my female friends are at risk of dying from any type of cancer.  I refuse to give up 718 (22%) of my friends to cancer!

The Movember Movement and the money I am raising this month are geared towards prostate and testicular cancer research. My mission is broader. I am growing this moustache to:

  1. Spread Awareness and education regarding all types of cancer.
  2. Support individuals who have faced this beast and survived.
  3. Support individuals who have faced this beast and came to rest.
  4. Protect all those (including myself) who are at risk of facing cancer or losing a loved one from it.
